The Buxton Corporation Water Works and Stanley Moor Reservoir

The Buxton Corporation Water Works (BCWW) was a municipal water authority responsible for developing reservoirs in the Buxton area, notably building a pumping plant in 1957 to service the now-abandoned Stanley Moor Reservoir near Harpur Hill. The site, featuring a yellow stone fronted pump house, was abandoned following structural failures and leaks at the reservoir.

Stanley Moor Reservoir, located near Buxton in the Peak District, was built in 1957 by the Buxton Corporation Waterworks to supply local water. It was plagued by leakage from the start, as it was built on a geological fault line between limestone and gritstone, leading to its decommissioning in the early 2000s and a subsequent breach in the dam wall to prevent it from filling.
